Perched at the edge of English Bay, the venerable, ivy-clad Sylvia offers gorgeous views across to the Kitsilano and Point Grey neighborhoods. The appealingly priced (under $150 a night) Edwardian hotel is basic, and hallways have seen better days, but rooms are clean and spacious and service is adequate. Ask for a room with a view and take in spectacular sunsets before you stroll back out to sample the plethora of restaurants within steps of the historic 1912 hotel. Sylvia’s, the onsite bistro and patio bar, is a nice spot to meet friends before heading out for the evening.
